Tooth out, Knit in!

Well, just had my wisdom tooth removed in the dentist chair. Wasn't too bad, bit rough on the old jaw, but at least now the healing can begin.

And to help the healing, I plan on doing a lot of knitting this weekend. While I wait for my UK rowan order to be delivered, I am going to knit up a chunky lace scarf pattern seen on my Ravelry page here. I went and got myself a whole lot of Veronica at Lincraft, and if I get through this then I'll get to my quickie cable beanie.

Anything that distracts, is a good thing. Here is my beautiful yarn, let the festivities begin.

Catch Up...

Well its been a busy time in my knitting world. Went along to the Stitches and Craft show at Melbourne Showgrounds with my Mum, and we had a great time. Bought some yummy Pear Tree yarn (which I have already knit up in to knee hi socks/stockings), and made Mum by a few knitting books and booklets that she just had to have (all of which have taken up resident on my coffee table) *grin*. Thanks, Mama.

I also made my way down to The Ravelry Rockateers SnB this past Saturday for the first time at All Smiles in Ringwood. Everyone was very nice and relaxed and I met some gorgeous knitters. Special mention to Faye, who took the time to show me several different ways to knit and purl (left-handed...ugh!) and Angela, who was a fellow newbie, and encouraged my wanton spending on Rowan wool. I really enjoyed meeting so many fellow enthusiast's and hope to make it along again soon.

So the plan for this week is to get out my wretched lower-right wisdom tooth. So while ice-packs, soup and more ice-packs are in order, I also plan on distracting myself from the discomfort by knitting of course. That and a little West Wing and Dawson's Creek action, will help to soothe the savage beast.

While I wait for my Rowan wool arrival from the UK, I think I am going to improvise a hat I saw in Myer today. With my handy hat arithmetics from Yarn Harlot's Knitting Rules, I'm just gonna wing it. Wish me luck

Post Office Booty

There a few of life's pleasure as purely enjoyable as picking up a package from the post office. Double that pleasure when it is an assortment of goodies ordered from The Wool Shack, it was with a giddy joy that I handed over my red card at the local post office, and received my booty.

I went a little nutty, and went against one of my cardinal yarn rules. Don't buy without a plan or pattern. And while I have a lacy scarf pattern from Knit.1 tagged for the cascade 220 yarn, and the kit is self explanatory, the woolganic and Blue Sky Alpaca were impulse buys.

And what a beautiful impluse they are. The Blue Sky is so deliciously soft and velvety, and if worse comes to worse, I'll turn the woolganic into Chrissy stockings or some such.
Perhaps my guilt of impulse spending was amplified by my purchase at Borders today. I finally gave in to temptation and bought the reverred Yarn Harlot's writings of Knitting Rules!. I will happily curl up in bed tonight and start pouring through this one. From the sneak peak I had earlier, I'm hoping for big laughs.

I'm slowly getting through the second sock of my Rapunzel Stockings from the very talented designs Ysolda Teague, and am hoping that I have a little left over from sock two to extend sock one. They are knee-hi, and while the first is adequate, I wouldn't mind just a little more height. Being that I'm 6 foot-tall, the one size fits all doesn't quite apply to me.

I'm hoping to complete this by the weekend (fingers crossed) by which time I hope to have decided what to start next. Decisions, decisions.

Inaugral Words

Ah, the first of what I hope will be many posts! I have created this space to share with the world, my inheriant love of all things knit, from my simple point of view. Although I should state early, my outlook will often stray from just straight knitting to, well, pretty much whatever happens in my little corner of the world.

Now, while I'm sure little bits of my life will seep onto the page as I go, I'll let you in on one small aspect early. No children, but I do have a dog, Quney. She just turned two.

She actually has just had a massive haircut, which I will get on asap. She is currently away at her new boyfriend's house, Gordon, as I am trying to breed her. So far, no bom-chiky-wawa, but I'll keep you informed.

I should really dedicate a whole blog just to her, the life and times of Quiney. Hmm, will think about that later.

Now like many of you, I found knitting as a child through my mother. I picked it up, on and off through my teenage years. I remember thinking back then, that I simply enjoyed the act of knitting, esp in the cold winter days and nights, in front of the TV. It wasn't until my early twenties that I wanted to make things to actually wear. And by then of course the internet was up and running, and you could find just about anything in patterns on the web.

And that is when I discovered UFO's. I mean sure, I could finish a triangular head-scarf, or a beanie, but suddenly I had bags full of items that never saw the light of day. There was the blue cotton tank top, that has the front and only half a back done. Or the one glove finished to perfection to match the beanie, but missing its partner. I even attempted the knitted bikini. I've met lots of people who have also tried there hand at this, and its always the same thing. The top half is pretty good, but the bottoms. If it doesn't look like a nappy cover, then its the fact that the damn things won't actually stay up. I cringe at the thought if anyone actually attempted to go for a dip in the pool with them. Or worse yet the ocean. They would disintergrate at the first wave,

So after many years of stopping and starting, I finally finished a project. It was a grey vest, with pink and white argyle patterning on the front. And not only did I wear it, but it ended up as part of my costume when I played the part of Serena in "FAME the musical" in an amatuer production in Melbourne.

There have been many projects since then, some disasters, some unfinished, and some turning out exactly how has imagined. No matter though, because everytime I pick up the needles, its a pleasure.
One I hope to share.
lots of love
